I enjoyed the first three videos. Now I have a different perspective on sociology. I didn’t quite enjoy the last video because it was not as entertaining as the other three videos.

The second video I especially liked as it perfectly represented the arrogance and manipulative techniques of sociology professionals who represent no real effect on the world around them. Showing a photo and trying to elicit what is most likely a wrong and negative reaction is nothing short of irresponsible. The examples are found in the photo of the cop and the child, and in the soldier from two different worlds, one of them supposedly American. He comments to the negative referring to the American. Such horse manure. I love it!

Raymond, I think you missed the point of what the video was about. Sociology exists to expose our positions so that we may become aware of them, rather than perpetuate a dysfunctional system by maintaining the status quo; one that’s currently filled with bias and hatred for people who are different from yourself.
The soldier, whether a paid actor or a real life photo, represented an American soldier. You can tell by the pouch he carries on his right shoulder on his load bearing vest. It contains a blood clotting powder and a sterilized dressing that is always located there, for easy access by fellow soldiers or medics in the event that an immediate tourniquet need be applied.
American pride is one thing. Pride in enslaving 3rd world children to make the clothes you wear is a disgusting trait, at least in my mind it is. We’re all guilty of stealing on a macro economic level. Becoming aware of this will help to effect change.
Sociology, like economics and psychology, seek to expose the world as it is, so we as individuals can identify our place within it, and then (if we so desire) seek to effect a positive change on it.
I agree, a lot of sociological researchers do just that – research. They aren’t out there making any big changes to the system like they’re supposed to be doing. Hopefully our generation will be appalled by the hypocrisy of the former generations and get out there and do something about it. I’m doing my part, are you?

I really liked the first video. It really makes you realize how much things change as time goes by. Yet people will always want to be better then everyone else no matter what it takes. Going into this I didn’t really know what Sociology was about. I now have a better understanding thanks to these videos.

I like the presentation because it gives me general idea of what sociology is all about. It presents different perspective about how an individual person integrates in a society and how society affects the life of the people. It mentioned about how capitalism is perceived by many people. Some of the videos ignited my emotion, why people violate others right, and dignity? I hope that my questions will be answered as the semester progresses.

I enjoyed the videos. It is just like an eye opening to me. All these things are happening iin our society, i did not even realize the are part of sociology. The video touched all the aspect of sociology, which has now given me a clue of what is happening in the society and around the global world, why people behave the way they behave and what lead people to a particular action. As we continue in this class, I hope to understand every aspect of sociology better.

I personally enjoyed the films because i now have an increased awareness concerning sociology. Some things shared tugged at my heartstring a bit to be reminded about the corruption that is in this world. IT also reminded me how important sociology is, especially when it comes to understanding and dissecting the world in which we live in.
